Punnamada Resort is a famous back water resort in Alleppey near the starting point of Nehru Trophy Boat Race. The resort is at a distance of 4km from the main Alleppey town. Punnamada Resort offers shikara ride as ‘Backwater Picnic’ through the serene back waters as per the convenience of the guest. The normal trip is for three hours and the duration can be extended as per the guest choice. The shikara at Punnamada Resort has a seating capacity of 17 people. The trip can be booked with or without lunch as per the choice of the guest. Shikara ride route is through Vembanad Lake and depends on the duration of the ride. It starts from Punnamada Resort and passes through Nehru Trophy finishing point and covers Kuttanad and Inner canals. More distance is covered to the interior of the Vembanad Lake when extra time is selected for the trip. Shikara can travel through the inner canals since it is smaller in size than the houseboats. The economical factor promotes the usage of Shikara when compared to the houseboat. Even though the quality of the journey differs in houseboat and shikara people use shikara to visit the inner canals of Alleppey backwaters. During backwater trips people can see the village life closely. The farming and fishing done by the villagers is always a thing of enthusiasm to the tourists.
